Movie Boogie

This IS completely random, just so you know. But nevertheless, a valiant effort to keep my blog alive amidst all the dreariness around me. You really should applaud my efforts at posting, because, let’s face it. How much is there to blog about these days? Well, for me mostly. I don’t like going out, and I just prefer to coop at home. This goes for watching movies as well (I haven’t forgotten, J! Your nachos and cheese will forever have a place on my beautiful blue Nike shoes…). Why go out and cue for stupid tickets for hours to find that you have to go for the next screening which is hours away?Watch it online I say! And I don’t download movies, so it shouldn’t be considered piracy, right?

I like movies, and I watch and pick movies the same way I do with books and music. My first source will always be from my friends! I always get recommendations from them as to what are the newest songs, what are the latest releases, whose music is worth a listen blah blah blah… So far my favourite recommendation is from A, for this song called ‘Complicated Girl’ by Varsity feat. Jax, the remix version. This song is reallt damn cool and really really nice! The vocals are pretty good as well. :D But I think my favourite music is still by Eminem. Anyway, after I get reccomendations from my friends, I just do a little bit of reading around sometimes, and I can find some pretty good reviews for movies and singers. Then I simply use my handy mouse to click!

Sometimes it also helps to read around other people’s blog as well. You can find some pretty insightful and intersting things. But seriously, I love all kinds of movies. Be it sci-fi, chick flick, movies with a deeper meaning, thrillers, documentaries, disney…I take on all comers! Although I’m not so inclined on watching horror movies. Ah, that, I reject all comers. Be it western, Korean, Japanese, I hate all kinds of horror movies. They make me think of horrible things and have nightmares when I sleep. A definite NO-NO to watch before I go to bed. Even the ‘Scary Movie’ series do nuts to me. I know, I’m a chicken. A wimp. AND I DON’T MIND! :D

Personally, I love movies which make you feel like you’re not watching a movie, but someone’s life story, and you’re part of them. Taste their bitterness, share their victory, moan over losses.. The first movie that made me have this feeling was ‘The Sound of Music’. You can laugh, but then it is undeniably a good film and although there was too much singing that could ever happen in real life, the film still gives you a heart-warming effect. I think if I sang that I would be heavily scrutinised upon and referred to Dr Boon. Who I think will just dump me in woodbridge. So besides that movie, the actor Johnny Depp’s movies can also make me feel the same way. And he can act whichever role thrown at him with such ease and precision! Remember Will Wonka? Captain Jack Sparrow? I can’t say much for Sweeney Todd because as much as I want to watch it, I haven’t mustered up the guts to. From what A tells me, it’s quite mild and the gore’s not too bad. But hey, that’s coming from the person who thinks ‘House of Wax’ is lame and that ‘Saw’ isn’t all that good. So I seriously can’t trust her judement. At least, not when I’m me and half scared to death of everything. Except animals of any kind. I think caterpillars are pretty cute and I love spiders and scorpions. I’m not that benelovent towards mosquitoes and cockcroaches though. The mere mention of them makes my scalp tingle and go numb.

Besides that, although most of the chick flicks etc are pretty good, you just can’t relate them to real life. Take ‘Bratz the Movie’ for instance. I totally love the girls, but sure, it’s everyday you see 4 girls who are pretty, smart, athletic with a good fashion sense battling it out with the teen queen of the school after just stepping foot in it for 1 measly hour. And the self proclaimed BFFs, break up in one week and get back together in 5 minutes. The leader, in an attempt to protect her friends from the teen queen’s wrath and the oh-so intimidating flowery thumbdrive that gives a bone-chilling beep sound, back out of the talent show even though she’s the most AMAZING singer ever. After which they decide to go to the talent show to find that the leader miraculously got over her stage fright and wowed the whole crowd. Oopsie, but before that, let’s throw in a heart to heart session with the whole SCHOOL and their PARENTS in tow and being a red carpet centre attraction after the talent show infront of people like, oh, I don’t know, Madonna? Throw in a dash of teen queen in the pool and a pinch of cute guys, and voila! There you have it! Bratz the movie!

Oh, I’m really not thrashing the movie because I totally love it. I used to spend all my time in the department stall when I was younger gawking at the Bratz dolls after I was done with the Barbies while my parents were doing their shopping. But I’m sorry, UNREAL much? And if I’m not mistaken, since when did freshmans become so influential? Hey, since we can’t have it in real life, it’s not bad to dream about it once in a while either. I think that’s what most girls of my age (and me) think when they watch these chick flicks. But the movie sure is good. But while we’re fantasising, we might as well move to loftier targets!

TRANSFORMERS!!! That’s also one of my favourite movies! I’m not mentioning Peter Pan or Harry Potter because, let’s face it, those fantasies can NEVER come true. The films sure are good though… The ‘Transformers’ dream is totally feasible because one day our technology might really be developed to that extent! And the part when one of the robots from the bad side (I forgot the name :P ) turned into a radio, then into a handphone, think about it, that could so totally happen! In the future, we’ll just have to buy a cell phone, and think of all the other gadgets it could turn into!!! But enough of this, I’m probably boring you.

Just as an ending foot note, I absolutely ADORE cycling, that’s why I would really want to go to Copenhagen to visit sometime. THIS should tell you why.
